Beginning Blacksmithing Learn the basics of early 20th century Blacksmithing and discover how to light and operate a coal forge, safely handle hot metal and various tools of the trade, and master the use of a blacksmith’s trusty tool, the hammer! Students will be able to create three projects in this course. Example projects include a punch and chisel, a pair of tongs, and forge welding. With a limited class size and a low student-to-teacher ratio, you’ll receive ample guidance as you learn the craft. Upon completing the class, you'll be eligible to attend Intermediate Blacksmithing, when offered. Please read the following requirements before registering: • Must be 18 years or older. • Registration and Payment: Required before attending the first class. Space for new students is limited. o Proof of insurance must be provided before attending class start. (An email will be sent with this request) o Waiver must be signed before class start. A copy of the waiver can be found in our Terms and Conditions when checking out. (An email with the waiver will be sent to you) • Safety Equipment: All participants must bring and wear their own safety gear unless provided, including: o Eye protection (Provided) o Natural fiber clothing (No shorts allowed, long sleeve highly recommended) o Closed-toe shoes (No open-toe shoes allowed) • Recommended Gear: We also suggest wearing hearing protection, head covering (hat or bandana) and bringing drinking water. • Tools: Hammers, other tools and materials will be provided during class. • Refund Policy: No refunds will be issued for no-shows.
